Lucyna Woźniak
Chemist and professor of medicine, graduated from the Technical University of Łódź. After PhD from the Polish Academy of Sciences and a 2- years post-doc at the Kings College London, she habilitated from the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies Polish Academy of Sciences. Professor at the Medical University of Lodz (MUL) working in the field of medicinal chemistry and molecular biology. Interested in diabetes in the context of pregnancy-induced diabetes (GDM) as an early predictor of type two diabetes in women population.

  • She is an author of more than 90 papers, book chapters and monographic articles and several international patents in the field of her scientific activity (DNA/RNA as antisense drugs, oxidative stress and antioxidants of plant origin, molecular mechanisms of diabetes, in particular, GDM, lipidomics and membrane remodelling),  and international patents (WIPO, EPO) on diastereomerically defined analogues of DNA/RNA as antisense drugs (anticancer and antiviral DNA sequence-specific treatment).

  • Professor Wozniak is currently Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations of the Medical University of Lodz, Deputy Director of the Healthy Ageing Research Centre (MUL) and Head of Chair of Medicinal Biology (MUL).

  • She serves as a member of the Scientific & Programme Board of the International School of the Molecular Medicine (Medical University of Warsaw), member of the Innovation Board of the Łodzkie Region, and the Monitoring Committee for the European Regional Development Funds in Łodzkie.

  • Member of Supervisory and Advisory on Innovation Boards of EIT HEALTH, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of EIT HEALTH Innostars.

  • Member of the High-Level Group on maximising impact of EU Research and Innovation Programmes established by the European Commission (Pascal Lamy Group) on the maximising the impact of EU investment in research and innovation and the evaluation of economic projects implemented in the framework of the financing of research and innovation in the European Union-Horizon 2020.

Ewa Balcerczak
Head of the Interfaculty Department of Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostics at UMED, plenipotentiary of the Rector of the Medical University of Lodz for Specialization in Laboratory Diagnostics and in other fields applicable in health care. Prof. Balcerzak is a coordinator of projects financed by the National Center for Research and Development (FARM @ BIO), NCN and the Medical University of Lodz, and a mentor in KUMPEL program. She is the winner of Loreal and UNESCO scholarship "For women in science", 8 Rector's awards for scientific and didactic achievements; MUL Rector’s award  for the best PhD thesis, the PTFarm awards for the best postdoctoral dissertation, the Foundation for Development of Laboratory Diagnostics for Young Diagnosticians, the Award for a Distinguished Laboratory Diagnostician received from KIDL. She is also a two-time winner of the student’s award  for the Best Academic Teacher.

Andrzej Głąbiński
Head of the Department of Neurology and Brain Strokes, Head of the Department of Nervous System Diseases, Military Medical Faculty UMED. Rector's representative for National Research and Development Projects. During his academic career he did internships, among others at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and carried out grant-aided programmes such as: USA - Fogarty (twice), EU - MolMed, Innochem as well as projects financed from the funds of KBN and NCN.

Małgorzata Czyż
is the Head of the Department of Molecular Biology of Cancer at the Medical University of Łódź, and is involved in the improvement of the experimental model of melanoma for preclinical studies. She published over 100 items (index H = 23), among others in "Nucleic Acids Research", "Journal of Biological Chemistry", "Blood", "British Journal of Pharmacology", "Molecular Carcinogenesis", "Oncotarget", "Journal of Investigative Dermatology", "Laboratory Investigation", "Cancer Letters" , "Cellular & Molecular Life Sciences", "Cancers", "Apoptosis". She is the manager of 10 projects of KBN / MNiSW / NCN concerning the regulation of eukaryotic gene expression; molecular mechanisms of action of anticancer drugs; heterogeneity of solid tumors; cancer stem cells as well as managing the packages in two EU projects, MolMed and Operation Success. She cooperated with many national and foreign centers, including University of Munich and INSERM in Paris.

Jakub Fichna
pharmacist and biochemist, professor of medical science specializing in medical chemistry and gastroenterology, Head of the Department of Biochemistry at the Medical University of Lodz. In his research he deals with the physiology and pathophysiology of the digestive system, the design and synthesis of potential drugs and the mechanisms of inflammatory and functional diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. He is 
a member of the Polish Society of Gastroenterology and Lodz Scientific Society. He published his works in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, Journal of Crohn's and Colitis, British Journal of Pharmacology, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, and Pharmacological Reviews. In 2015, he was the first Pole to have received the Rising Star awarded by the National and Scientific Committee of United European Gastroenterology. Earlier, within the National Societies Committee of the UEG, he was appointed the National Societies Committee of the Young Committee Member and the chairman of UEG Young Talent Group. He received the Award of The President of Polish Academy of Sciences (2015), awards of the Minister of Science and Higher Education (2017) and the Minister of Health (2018). He is in charge of the projects of the National Science Center, Foundation for Polish Science, Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Piotr Gałecki
a medical practitioner, a specialist in psychiatry and sexology, the head of the Department of Adult Psychiatry, Medical University of Lodz, the national consultant in psychiatry, the director of health care at J. Babiński Hospital in Łódź, a lecturer at the National School of Judiciary and Prosecutor's Office in Krakow, an academic teacher. Author and co-author of over 300 publications as well as publications from the so-called borderline of law and psychiatry. Editor of several national and international scientific journals. He is the initiator and co-organizer of the International Congress of Forensic Psychiatry, which has attracted numerous representatives of legal sciences and medical professions for several years. He also co-organizes the conference "Film progress in psychiatry”.
For many years Professor Gałecki has been educating new generations of doctors promoting knowledge and fascination with human mind functioning.
Both professionally and privately he is particularly interested in spreading knowledge the rights of psychiatric patients. Professor Gałecki undertakes many activities against stigmatisation and social exclusion of patients. In clinical and research work he seeks to understand the biological determinants of mental illness, mainly depressive disorders. He is a well-known supervisor of numerous scientific research and the creator of an innovative, "neurodevelopmental theory of depression", which integrates current approaches in the understanding of the etiology of this disease.

Ireneusz Majsterek
Head of the Inter-faculty Department of Chemistry and Medical Biochemistry. His main fields of research include medical, clinical and basic sciences concerning human diseases. He has extensive experience in all aspects of DNA mutation and epimutation, from basic evolutionary aspects to translational applications in genetic and epigenetic diagnosis and therapy. He is interested in mechanisms of mutation induction, DNA repair, replication or recombination, new methods of detection of mutations with ultra-high-throughput sequencing and somatic mutations and epimutations in neoplastic and neurodegenerative diseases during aging. In addition, he deals with the role of de novo mutations in the structure and function of chromatin and mitochondrial DNA mutations and their consequences in terms of diseases and aging of humans, as well as novel methods of generating and analyzing mutations in cell lines and animal models. Professor Majsterek is particularly focused on the basic mechanisms by which DNA damage and mutations affect development and differentiation, including various forms of cell death and cellular aging.

Piotr Rieske
studied at the Department of Medical Analytics, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical Academy in Lodz (1991-1996). He received his PhD degree in medical sciences in 1998 at the Medical Academy in Łódź. Between 1999 and 2005 he completed his internships in the USA (Universities: Jefferson, Hahnemann, Temple). In 2006 he received a postdoctoral degree. Since 2012 he has been managing the Cancer Biology Department at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and Postgraduate Education at the Medical University of Lodz. In 2013, he received the academic title of professor. He is the author of approximately seventy peer-reviewed scientific publications, mainly on stem cells and oncology. He is a cocreator of over a dozen patents and patent applications regarding regenerative medicine and anticancer therapies.

Wojciech Fendler
specializes in statistical analysis and translational research. Together with researchers from the Harvard Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, he develops diagnostic tests based on microRNAs that allow detection of ovarian cancer and exposure to high doses of radiation. Prof. Fendler is a winner of several prestigious competitions such as the Ministry of Science and Higher Education scholarship for outstanding young scientists, START Scholarships from the Foundation for Polish Science and “Polacy z Werwą” poll.

Michał Polguj
Plenipotentiary of the Rector of the Medical University of Lodz for Open Access and the head of the Department of Angiology of the Interdepartmental Chair of Anatomy, Medical University of Lodz. A graduate of the Medical Faculty of the Medical University of Lodz, a member of the Main Board of the Polish Anatomical Society, Deputy Chairman of the Lodz Branch of the Polish Anatomical Society. The secretary of the Medical Department of the Lodz Scientific Society and a member of the European Society of Clinical Anatomy and the British Society of Clinical Anatomy. His main interests include clinical anatomy and radiological anatomy. Morphological variations of blood vessels and musculoskeletal system are the mainstream of his research.

Wojciech Piotrowski
Assoc. Prof. Wojciech Piotrowski is a pulmonologist, employed at Department of Pneumology and Allergy. Graduated at Medical University of Lodz in 1986. Expert in interstitial lung diseases and COPD. Involved in several international research projects, including BIOMED (standardization of respiratory cell cultures for toxicological studies) and Healthy Aging Research Centre (HARC), where he was responsible for coordinating studies on multimorbidity in the elderly. At present engaged in several research projects on the use of telemonitoring in respiratory medicine. Editor-In-Chief of a medical journal Advances in Respiratory Medicine and member of the General Board of Polish Respiratory Society.

Maciej Godycki-Ćwirko
a physician and a researcher, a specialist in family medicine and public health focusing on health of local communities and resistance to antibiotics. He is also  the Head of the Center for Family and Community Medicine of the Medical University of Lodz. His research encompasses studies of environmental factors and implementation science.
He is a graduate of Stanisław Wyspiański Grammar School in Łódź, and of the Faculties of  Mathematics and Philosophy at the University of Lodz. He is a specialist in Family Medicine and Public Health. He is an honorary member of the College of Family Physicians in Poland, and a member of the European Academy of Teachers, in General Practice / Family Medicine; he also plays a role in the European Network for Prevention and Health Promotion, chairing the General Practice Research on Infections Network. His scientific papers have been published in many journals including the Lancet, Lancet Infectious Diseases, Journal of American Medical Association, Cochrane Database of Systematic reviews, British Medical Journal British Journal of General Practice Implementation Science. In addition, he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Rural Medicine, a coordinator and a partner in international research consortia and a British Council scholarship holder. He was awarded the 30th Anniversary Medal from the Institute of Cardiology of the Collegium Medicum, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, and has received an Honorary Medal of the Minister of Health for contributions to Health Care and the Gold Cross of Merit of the President of Poland.

Mariusz Stasiołek
a graduate of the Medical Academy in Łódź. He is the head of the Neurology Clinic of the Medical University of Lodz and the Department of Clinical Neurology at Barlicki University Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Łódź. In 2014-2017 he managed the Neurology Clinic of Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital Research Institute in Łódź. He also supervised the entire research and development activity of the Institute as the Scientific Secretary. Since 2017 he has been a member of the Scientific Units Evaluation Committee , an advisory body of the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

Wojciech Kuczyński
is an assistant at the Department of Sleep Medicine and Metabolic Disorders at the Medical University of Lodz and a doctor - resident of internal medicine, at the General and Oncological Pulmonology Clinic, Barlicki University Clinical Hospital. He is also the departmental coordinator of the Erasmus Plus program for the Faculty of Medicine and the coordinator of the mobility program with partner universities in Thailand and Japan. In 2017, he was awarded the Rector's Award for the Best Academic Teacher.
Weronika Pokora
is a 4th year student at the Faculty of Medicine For the past two years she has been the President of Łódź Branch of the International Association of Medical Students IFMSA-Poland. As part of her activities at IFMSA-Poland, from the very beginning of her studies, she has been actively involved in medical education, health promotion and international integration of medical students. She also provides training in soft skills. She completed internships at the Ministry of Health as well as foreign workshops and clinical internships. She is also involved in Students Scientific Circles (SSC) at the Department of Endocrine Disorders and Bone Metabolism and SSC Pediatrics.
Magda Barańska
Student at the Faculty of Medicine,  the chairperson of the Student Scientific Society in the academic year 2018/2019. As part of her work at Student Scientific Society, she has been supporting students' academic development for many years, initiating and organizing conferences, workshops and programs encouraging them to undertake scientific work, including the largest student conference at MUL-Juvenes Pro Medicina,  which brings together nearly 300 active participants from over a dozen countries each year. She implements an individual course of studies in the Department of Otolaryngology, Oncology of the Head and Neck of Medical University of Lodz. She is the winner of the "Student-Scientist" grant, the author of conference reports, publications and papers highlighted at conferences. She completed research internships at the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

A  4th year  student at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of pursuing the Individual Study Course at the Department of Chemistry and Clinical Biochemistry of the Medical University of Lodz under the supervision of Prof. Ireneusz Majsterek, MD, PhD. He was a member of the Presidium of the Commission for Higher Medical Education of the Students' Parliament of the Republic of Poland, and currently he is the Vice President of the University Student Council of MUL Łódź. He is also the laureate of the MUL Grants Program, co-author of  scientific articles  and over a dozen papers presented at national and international conferences. He is a winner of numerous awards and scholarships. In his scientific work he deals mainly with issues in the field of: molecular biology, biochemistry, dental material science and orthodontics.
